Odoo for manufacturing

Know what you're making,
and what it makes you.

When costs live in a spreadsheet, production lives in someone's head and stock is a guess, you are flying blind. We set up Odoo so makers run the shop floor, the materials and the numbers in one connected system.

What makers tell us

Different products, same headaches. If two or three of these land, Odoo is worth a serious look.

You cost jobs by hand, and find out too late

Quotes go out on last year's prices. You only learn what a product or job actually made once it is finished, if at all.

Production planning lives in someone's head

Someone phones the supplier every morning and works out the run on the day. You react instead of plan, and capacity gets squeezed.

Materials counted by hand

People physically count components to work out usage and what to reorder. Over-order and cash is stuck on the shelf; under-order and the line stops.

Estimating, production and accounts don't join up

The same figures are re-typed from your estimating tool into the accounts package, and the two never quite agree.

No traceability when you need it

Batch, lot or serial history that a recall, an audit or a certificate would demand is on paper, in a log, or nowhere.

An MRP tool you have outgrown

Too rigid, too fiddly, or it buckled as you scaled, so you quietly drifted back to spreadsheets to keep things moving.

What Odoo gives a manufacturer

One connected system across estimating, the shop floor, stock and the numbers, set up around how you actually make things.

  • Real bills of materials and routings, multi-level, with true cost rolled up so quotes reflect current material and labour cost, not a stale spreadsheet.
  • Live work orders and a shop-floor view so everyone knows what to make next and what is holding things up.
  • Materials tied to the job, reserved and consumed against each order, so you stop over-ordering and stop running short.
  • Demand and production planning with reordering rules and forecasts, replacing the daily phone call to the supplier.
  • Batch, lot and serial traceability built in, for compliance, recalls and certificates of conformity.
  • Subcontract and co-pack handling, sending components out and receiving finished goods back, with what was actually made reconciled.
  • One thread from quote to works order to delivery to invoice, with your accounts package kept or consolidated when you are ready.

We have set Odoo up for makers with deep bills of materials, awkward units of measure, subcontracted steps and real margin pressure. The goal is always the same: know what you are making, and know what it makes you.

How we work

We prove it before we scale it

We get the core make-to-order flow working first, prove it on real production, then layer on the rest. You are never betting the factory on one go live date.

1

Discover

We map how you quote, make and ship, and agree a fixed scope.

2

Configure

Products, BoMs, routings and costing set up to fit your shop floor.

3

Migrate

Your real products, materials and stock brought across cleanly.

4

Train

Office and shop-floor teams learn the parts they each use.

5

Go live & support

We launch alongside you and stay on hand afterwards.

Common questions

Odoo for manufacturing, answered

Does Odoo handle multi-level BoMs and subcontracting?
Yes. Odoo supports multi-level bills of materials, routings, work centres and subcontracting, so you can send components out to a co-packer or sub-assembler and receive finished goods back, with stock and cost tracked the whole way.
Can it cost a product or job accurately, including labour and overhead?
It can. Cost rolls up through the BoM and routing, and analytic (job) costing lets you compare quoted against actual on a product or project. That is usually the single biggest win for makers who currently cost by hand.
We outgrew MRPEasy or a similar tool. Is Odoo really different?
Yes. Odoo is a full ERP rather than a standalone MRP, so manufacturing sits in the same system as sales, purchasing, stock and accounting. It scales with you, and because we configure it around your process rather than forcing you into a fixed one, it does not feel like a rigid "component programme".
Does it do batch, lot and serial traceability for compliance?
Yes. Odoo tracks lots and serial numbers from goods-in to dispatch, which covers batch traceability, recall readiness, expiry, and the data behind certificates of conformity or food-safety records.
Do we have to move off Xero or Sage?
No. Most manufacturers keep their accounts package while we fix production and stock first, then consolidate the books into Odoo later only if it makes sense. You are never forced to change your ledger to get started.
How long does a manufacturing implementation take?
It depends on how complex your products and processes are, but most SME manufacturers are live on the core make-to-order flow within a few weeks to a few months. We stage it so you feel the benefit early. Book a call for a realistic timeline.
